Green box receives TGA

Green Box is the first Danish producer of prefabricated bathrooms in lightweight design to receive a TGA (Technical Approval for Use). This provides documented security for the quality of the bathrooms and is a guarantee that they meet the requirements of the Danish building regulations.

Green Box bathrooms are built around an innovative lightweight structure, which has resulted in the company, based in the Danish town of Aulum in West Jutland, being awarded a TGA.

ETA-Danmark has issued the approval of the bathrooms from Green Box based on extensive full-scale testing.

“We’ve just completed the first approval of bathroom pods for Green Box, the first Danish producer of prefabricated bathrooms in lightweight design to receive a TGA.

A prefabricated bathroom pod, which is then transported, stored and installed in the finished building must, among other requirements, pass strength/rigidity tests, but also waterproofness, sound insulation and pressure testing of the water systems are part of the tests that must be passed to obtain an approval,” says Pia Ohrt Thomsen, Senior Consultant at ETA-Danmark.

Why is a TGA important?

A TGA of a product certifies that the product complies with the requirements in the Building Regulations and general technical common property, and documents that the product may be used in accordance with these. In other words, it is a guarantee that the product can be legally used in Denmark.

The Danish Building Defects Fund (Byggeskadefonden) requires that the applicable legislation for wet rooms is complied with for a building to be covered by the Danish Building Defects Fund’s guarantee.

For the developer, the approval of bathroom cabins from Green Box thus means extra security. In fact, a TGA means that a third party through inspection of the supplied QA documentation has verified that Green Box bathrooms are produced in accordance with the current legislation for wet rooms.

“That is precisely why it’s incredibly important to us that we can now provide a TGA for Green Box bathrooms. This gives our customers a documented guarantee for the quality of our prefabricated bathrooms. It’s also a unique competitive advantage for us as we are the only Danish producer to have obtained the approval from ETA-Danmark.

We’re proud of this, and it only further motivates us to maintain our strong focus on quality and documentation in all processes of the development and manufacture of Green Box bathrooms,” says Peer Leth, CEO of Green Box.

Innovative construction ensures approval

Prefabricated bathrooms from Green Box are built around a patented steel structure. The floor is made of concrete embedded in a hot-dip galvanised steel profile, while the walls are made of hot-dip galvanised steel cassettes clad with fibre plaster.

It is this exact design that makes the bathrooms incredibly strong and stable and it has been crucial to the results of the strength and rigidity tests that have been performed by relevant experts in connection with ETA-Danmark’s test programme.

During a building process, prefabricated bathrooms are often left for many months in the open shell structure, where they risk being exposed to rain and other impacts. However, the closed steel structure of Green Box bathrooms provides optimal protection in terms of waterproofness – another parameter that forms part of ETA-Danmark’s full-scale testing.

In fact, the closed steel structure protects the Green Box bathrooms against weather and water penetration into the structure, which helps make them resistant to building moisture.
