HERNING+

A new neighbourhood called Herning+ is being established on the former hospital site centrally located in Herning. The project comprises different housing types, including subsidised and private dwellings, tower blocks, high-rise buildings as well as accompanying facilities such as parking lots, grocery stores and café area.

A NEW, VIBRANT NEIGHBOURHOOD

The construction of the new neighbourhood is divided into 14 individual construction projects, which will, for example, result in 600 homes for individuals, families and senior citizens. A large part of the new homes will be furnished with prefabricated bathrooms from Green Box, which will be produced in parallel with the extensive construction works and be delivered as part of the individual construction projects.

The first project to be completed in the summer of 2024 is the Townhouses project in the eastern end of the area. Here, three-storey buildings will be constructed in small clusters with free access to a green and recreational communal area located in the middle.

The name of the new neighbourhood is reflected in the street layout, which will tie the area together when, it is fully completed in 2026 as scheduled. In fact, the street layout is shaped as a plus sign, where a 55-metre multi-storey building with owner-occupied apartments divided onto 15 storeys constitutes the central point of reference, around which a new urban space will be established with green communal areas, shops, a medical centre and a grocery store.

ARCHITECTURE BASED ON HISTORY

Architecturally, Herning+ is based on one of Herning’s oldest buildings – the hospital building complex. With their reddish bricks and detailed facades, the buildings in the new neighbourhood draw a fine connection to the former function of the area and thus mix beautifully with the existing red hospital buildings from the 20th Century.
